Pointwise property

Category
STANDARD MATHEMATICS
Definition
A property required to hold separately at each individual point of a domain.
Math Level
GENERAL

A pointwise property is a property required separately at each individual point of a domain.

Saying F(x)≥0F(x)\ge0 pointwise means every permitted xx must satisfy the inequality. This differs from an average or integral being non-negative, because positive regions can compensate for negative ones in an average without giving pointwise positivity.
