- RFC 3161 timestamp; timestamp authority
A trusted timestamp is independent evidence linking a particular digital object or hash to a recorded time.
A timestamp can provide evidence that the identified object existed by that time. It is different from a signature: signing associates an object with a key, while timestamping addresses the object's existence at a time.
