- SHA256; 256-bit hash
SHA-256 is a cryptographic hash function that turns an arbitrary sequence of bytes into a fixed 256-bit digital fingerprint.
If two files have matching SHA-256 hashes, that is strong evidence that their bytes are identical. A hash identifies content; by itself it does not say who created it, whether it is mathematically correct or when it existed.
